#STATurday - Odd-Year Success for the Women's Cross Country Team

PURCHASE, NY - 2020 has been an odd year.

I think we can all agree on that.

And while most individuals don't usually thrive under odd conditions, the women's cross country team is an exception to the rule. Well, at least when it comes to odd numbered years that is.

Since joining the Skyline Conference in 2007, the women's cross country team has enjoyed tremendous All-Skyline Conference success during years that end in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9.

Don't believe me? Check out these facts in the latest installment to our weekly #STATurday series!

In 2017 and 2019, Haley Maerz '20 was named to the All-Skyline Conference First and Second Teams, as she finished 4th and 8th respectively.

In 2015, Charlotte Emms placed 11th at the Skyline Conference Championships for a spot on the All-Second Team.

In 2013, Katherine Henri recorded a 1st-place finish at the Championships to claim the Skyline Conference Runner of the Year award and her spot on the All-First Team.

In 2011, Laurel Squadron earned a spot on the All-Skyline First Team, as she finished 7th overall.

In 2009, Colleen Walker '12 finished 6th at the Championships and received an All-Skyline First Team nod as a result.

Finally, back in 2007, the first year that Purchase College began competing in the Skyline Conference, the Panthers had two members claim spots on the All-First and Second Teams respectively, as Maya Segers placed 2nd and Patricia Gaeta finished 7th.

As you can see so far, odd years haven't slowed down the Purchase College women's cross country team at all. In fact, they've actually just helped the Panthers.

We can only hope that the trend continues in 2021, when the team returns to action.
