In the Panther Spotlight: Jordan Snider

Former DII Champ Named New Head Men's Tennis Coach at Purchase

Every week, the Sports Information Department at Purchase will select a new student-athlete, coach/staff or event to highlight in our "In the Panther Spotlight" feature … today's feature: Jordan Snider Tabbed to Lead Purchase Men's Tennis

Purchase, NY (Nov. 17, 2017) – He is the face of "Future Stars" on campus, and now he will have a chance to find and shape new talent as the skipper of the Purchase College men's tennis team, too.

New Rochelle, NY native Jordan Snider, a former Division II tennis player, and the current director of Future Stars Summer Camps – a well-known youth program in the area, housed at Purchase during the summer months – has been named the new head coach of the Panther men's tennis team, Athletic Director Chris Bisignano announced.

"Jordan brings a wealth of experience to this position," Bisignano said. "Being a former DII tennis player himself, I think he'll fit right in and hit the ground running. We are very fortunate to have someone of his caliber joining the staff."

Snider earned his BA in psychology from Rollins College. He later earned his MBA from the NYU Stern School of Business.

The new Panther head coach played tennis at Rollins, where he was a member of the 1991 Division II National Championship team. With Snider on the roster, that team was ranked in the Top 5 nationally every year. He was named captain of the team his senior year.

"We finished third in the country that year," recalled Snider, who today dedicates his life to sports and youth development.

Snider said that was a great time in his life and that he is looking forward to similar success at Purchase.

The newcomer has over 15 years of experience teaching and coaching tennis to juniors and adults of all ages, and of all levels from beginners to high level tournament players.

"I've been part of the campus and community for 25 years running the Future Stars Summer Camps, and I have developed an attachment and bond to the college while being made to feel welcome by so many faculty, staff and students.

"I am very excited to officially be a member of the Purchase College community," he added.

Snider was named director of Future Stars in 1993 and helped grow the camp from just three programs and a few hundred children to over 20 programs and thousands of children every summer.

In addition to Future Stars and now coaching at Purchase, Snider serves as the president of Briarcliff Youth Soccer Club and volunteers to coach youth soccer, baseball and basketball.

In his spare time, Snider, who currently lives in nearby Briarcliff with his wife, Julie, and his daughter, Emily, and son, Eli, still enjoys playing sports, too. His passion these days is running marathons. He has five marathons under his belt. He says none of his post college career would have been possible without his experiences as a former college student-athlete.

"My college tennis experience was integral in shaping my future and I know the value and challenges of being a student-athlete," Snider said. "I am thrilled for the opportunity to help these student-athletes achieve their goals, both on and off the tennis court."
